Wanting to branch out and expand your comfort zone?
Breaking down these walls will help you grow and realize your greatest potential in life!
If you’ve been reading my blog you know that I have broken down many walls in my own life. I’ve come a long way! And there is no reason that you can’t do the same!
I was a shy, small town Iowa farm girl who married a Marine and moved away from my family, friends and my career! A girl who barely made it through a sleepover without getting homesick and needing a ride home to her mommy!
Now that I’m a mommy, I find myself telling my children, “How do you know you won’t like it, if you haven’t tried it first!” What great words of wisdom we could all tell ourselves!
Example: Growing up, I was not a roller coaster person. I didn’t want anything to do with them. One summer when I was a kid, I went to a theme park with my best friend called Adventureland. She talked me into riding a roller coaster that had a double upside down loop called The Dragon. I eventually caved and went on it (actually, I think she MADE ME!!!)… I was nearly throwing up before we even started moving because I was so scared. Well you know what? We ended up going on it 9 times in a row!
It. Was. Awesome. Who knew?
And I was so excited and proud of myself for doing it! Obviously, because I am still talking about it after more than 15 years!
My point is… expand your comfort zone and try things you wouldn’t normally do!
Try things that you are afraid of trying and make you uncomfortable. You might just like it! And the more you do it, the less uncomfortable it will make you! You will grow stronger and learn so much about yourself that you never knew! It could open doors you never knew existed!
Start small…
Try a new food.
Shop at a new store.
Call up an old friend to chat.
Read a book you normally wouldn’t read.

Omigosh….I TOTALLY remember growing up going to Adventureland. (also a small town, Iowa farm girl here!) I have to say….I still don’t like roller coasters, but I definitely tried them (and more than once!). Your article is sooo true….and having lived in another country for a year, and having traveled to several different continents/countries…..I absolutely believe that trying new things is a MUST !!

I felt that same way a little older in life. I got a job helping people settle their debt. A little random for a psych major but jobs are a precious commodity in college. I thought I would be horrible because I had no sales or convincing experience. I was quite great if you ask me
Trying new things just gives us more

Awww the Comfort Zone….it’s funny how cozy we get there and the thought of leaving can be paralyzing…but stepping across that line really does amazing things for our confidence and gives us the ability to achieve more than we thought possible! Thanks for the post!

Thanks Kimberly
Sometimes it seems so difficult to try something new. Here’s a great quote I love and thought I’d share ….“Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new.” Brian Tracy

So very true Kim.. I too was a small town girl who really didn’t know what was out there in the real world. I decided to try my hand at being a flight attendant and absolutely LOVED it. I was able to experience to world and all that it had to offer. I loved that it gave the strength to overcome my fears and actually LIVE. I know now as a mother of 5 that I can help them achieve any goal they set out to attain… Thanks so much Kim

This is an awesome post. I am currently working on expanding my comfort zone, and as scary and hard as it is, I truly believe that once you can accomplish it your life can only change for the better! Thanks for sharing this.
